A DARLINGTON school is closed today because it has a problem with its fire alarm.
Darlington Borough Council says Rydal Academy may be closed tomorrow as well as a result of the issue.
In a post on social media, headteacher John Armitage said contractors had been working last night to try and resolve the issue.
Last night, he said: “Unfortunately, we have experienced a premises issue after school today (Wednesday 10th June) that contractors have worked until late this evening to try and resolve, however they have not been able to address the issue in time and therefore the school will be closed to ALL PUPILS tomorrow (Thursday 11th June).
“We will be trying to resolve the issue during the course of Thursday and we will let you know at the earliest possible opportunity what the situation is regarding opening on Friday 12th June.
“Apologies for the late notice but we wanted to take every opportunity this evening to try and resolve the issue so that we could be open tomorrow.”
The school, in Rydal Avenue, is currently open to priority children – those of key workers and those who are vulnerable.
From Monday, it hopes to extend opening year six pupils.
