A BORO bakery determined to rise again post-coronavirus has added its voice to backing 'Buy Boro'.

Neville and Lynette Rees, who run Baker's Cabin on Saltersgill Avenue, have built the business to include a lunch delivery service to businesses, party catering and corporate lunches, as well as having the shop front.

After a period of closure due to coronavirus, the team is back and have re-opened the bakery, asking customers to order in advance and observe social distancing.

They are also offering deliveries, including a popular boxed high tea hamper.

To support local businesses Middlesbrough Council launched the Buy Boro campaign to encourage Teessiders to shop local.

Figures show that for every £1 spent with a local independent business between 50p-70p stays in the local economy, with that figure dropping to just 5p when a £1 is spent online or with a national retailer.

Ms Rees said: "I totally agree with buying local because at the end of the day you are supporting your own.

"I always say if I need something repairing on the van then I go to someone who we supply to, that always seems right to me both for the economy and on a personal level."

Mr Rees added: "We're a family-run business which we have owned for 20 years. We make all our own products on site, fresh pies, quiche, cakes and bread - all made daily and fresh.

"It's very important to us to use local businesses to get supplies for two reasons, one reason is I need to get stuff daily so I can keep making fresh products, secondly it's good to keep money in the community.

"Some of the businesses I use is a family-run business in Stockton, one in Middlesbrough and one in Billingham. It's very important all the money that is spent is kept in the local community.

"As I am a family run business myself I rely on the community to keep me going and to keep us busy."
