DETECTIVES are investigating after police received a report of a rape.

The attack allegedly happened in the King Oswy Drive area of Hartlepool in the hours leading up to 4am on Sunday.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "We would specifically ask for the public’s help in identifying a man we would like to speak to as he may have information which could assist our inquiries."

He is described as white with a tanned complexion, in his 20’s and between 5ft 6ins and 5ft10ins tall.

He also described as scruffy and unshaven with short curly sideburns and wearing a grey hoody with a motif on the front and the hood up, trainers and a black face mask.

The spokesman said: "The victim, a woman in her 40s, has been offered support from specially trained officers while inquiries continue.

"We would reassure residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident and we currently have extra patrols in the area.

"Anyone who may have information, or anyone with domestic CCTV or dash cam footage which has captured anything which could help police, is asked to contact Hartlepool CID via the 101 number.

Victims of rape or sexual abuse can contact Teesside Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for help and support, regardless of whether or not the offence has been reported to police.
