A THEATRE company is asking for public participation in a call to arms for its latest project focused on connectivity in the community.

ODDMANOUT, a Darlington-based new-works theatre company is hosting a selection of artist-led online workshops to explore how people stay connected in the community and what it means to be from the town.

While the workshops were originally planned to be in person, the group has adjusted its plans due the Covid-19 pandemic, but hopes as many people as possible will take part as also a means to get creative while in lockdown.

A collection of workshops led by artists from a range of disciplines, including Katie Doherty, Gary Kitching, John Mayson, Steve Byron, Hannah Munro, and Christina Berriman, will sculptures, writing, music and a live performance created by the Creative Darlington and Arts Council England-backed theatre group and artists.

This includes 'A song for our town' which will be created and sung by the community about the inspirational people and places found in Darlington.

Listen and you’ll see is a collection of newly commissioned pieces for writing, created in response to some of the Darlington's landmarks and locations.

The writings will tell stories imagined from the types of things these characters have experienced.

People are also welcomed to create a sculpture of themselves in an online tutorial for A Stage of Sculptures, an instalment of each person's creation which ODDMANOUT hopes to bring together in the future.

This is the first phase of the 'It’s all Happening Here!' project, with the second bringing together the works.

Katy Weir, artistic director: "I am so excited to launch our new project 'It's All Happening Here'.

"It's great to be able to keep bring creative activities to the town at such a vulnerable time and we couldn't do this without the support of Creative Darlington and also the Arts Council and Darlington Hippodrome.

"There's going to be lots happening in Darlington over the next few months so make sure you keep an eye out on our social media or our website."
