Two passers-by pulled a man from a burning car after it burst into flames.

The fire engulfed the black Jaguar XJ completely destroying it on Whalley New Road, Blackburn, where the driver had stopped.

The man had noticed smoke and unusual noise coming from his engine when it suddenly went up in flames.

He stopped at the side of the road, where two passerby heroes helped rescue him from the burning car, pulling him to safety.

Luckily, he only suffered minor injuries but has been taken to hospital for pre-cautionary measures.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "A man was driving along when he noticed a fault with his car.

"He heard bangs and pops before it burst into flames, so he pulled over and two members of public helped him escape.

"The driver suffered minor injuries and has been taken to hospital.

"He was already in an ambulance when we got there."

Two fire engines attended the fire at 6.30pm and took ten minutes to get the fire under control and a further hour to make the area safe.

Whalley New Road was closed as the crews dealt with the fire.
