A GROUP of up to 50 cyclists was spotted on the seafront at Saltburn, prompting police to remind people about the importance of social distancing.

Cleveland Police said it also made arrests and issued a penalty warning after being called to an alleged party in Hartlpool on Saturday.

A police spokesperson said: "We recognise the majority of people are doing everything they can to abide by Government advice.

"We continue to appeal to people to follow national guidance for the pandemic to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

"Gatherings of people - such as house parties and group sporting activities - continue to be prohibited to limit the spread of Covid-19."

Police were called to the alleged part in the Rossmere area of Hartlepool just before 11pm on Saturday.

Officers charged a 37-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman with being drunk and disorderly in a public place and assaulting a police officer.

A third man, aged 43, received a penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly.

Earlier in the day, police received reports of a group of up to 50 cyclists on the seafront at Saltburn, on a joint ride.

Police attended to give advice on the current COVID restrictions.
