AN award-winning curry chef has been preparing meals for NHS staff working on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus.

City of Durham MP Mary Foy visited The Capital restaurant, on Claypath to help executive chef Syed Islam and his team prepare over 100 meals which were being delivered free of charge to accident and emergency staff at University Hospital North Durham (UHND) .

Syed and his team were keen to offer their support to the staff at UHND and felt the meals would provide some much-needed comfort to the doctors and nurses who have been working so hard during the pandemic, often without being able to take time to eat proper meals during their shifts.

Ms Foy said: “When Syed got in touch and told me about his plan to provide free meals to UHND staff, I jumped at the chance to go along and help.

"The work that our heroic frontline NHS workers are doing at the moment is absolutely invaluable and many of them are working long shifts with little, or no time, to actually look after themselves – even when it involves something as simple as taking some time out to eat a meal.

"This is another heart-warming example of how the communities and businesses in my brilliant constituency look out for one another. I hope all the staff who received one of Syed’s incredible meals enjoyed them."
