A POLICE Community Support Officer (PCSO) was left with a broken knee after being hit by a quad bike in Teesside.

It happened in East Street in Loftus, East Cleveland, at around 7pm on Wednesday.

The PCSO was patrolling the area when he saw two quad bikes being driven dangerously.

The metal frame of one of the bikes collided with the PCSO, knocking him to the ground.

Both quad bike riders then made off, leaving him injured, a police spokesperson said.

The PCSO was taken to James Cook University Hospital where he received treatment.

The quad bikes are described as adult sized and dark in colour, with one rider on each bike.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the quad bikes to get in touch.

A 20-year-old man and a 28-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident.

They have both been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
