A THREE day tulip festival will not be cancelled this year, but will move and become online floral extravaganza.
Constable Burton Hall and Gardens tulip festival was originally developed by Mr Charles Wyvill a former Lord Lieutenant of the County. After visiting the Keukenhof Festival in Holland several years ago, he developed it into a three day festival of floral, displaying over 6500 tulips of differing varieties and styles.
The hall and gardens are still owned and run today by the Wyvill family, who have an unbroken male line stretching back to Sir Humphrey de Wyvill who, in 1066, served with William the Conqueror.
D’Arcy Wyvill, his wife Imogen and family are the present residents of the Hall. He explained: “With the lockdown we originally thought we couldn’t have the festival this year. However Imogen and I have been working hard to create a virtual tour of the gardens.
“We hope it will encourage to come and see us visitors once the county opens up.
We also lit up the Hall blue to recognise the NHS.”
Constable Burton Hall’s virtual tulip festival with over 6,500 new and variant tulips planted amongst the extensive borders starts this weekend; it can be viewed on their Instagram or Facebook page.
