A REDCAR charity with a history of supporting women through period poverty has launched a new support service for every age.

TEES (Together, Engage, Encourage, Support) CIO typically helps women and girls experiencing period poverty but has turned its hand to help the wider community through the coronavirus pandemic including families, young people in supported accommodation and elderly or vulnerable adults.

A £5000 emergency grant from County Durham Community Foundation has allowed charity founders Tonia Nixon and Mark Thacker to work with local food banks to deliver food and essentials to those most in need.

Ms Nixon said: “The pandemic has made our demand go from big to huge and we are seeing that vulnerable people are now becoming more visible and people now have no choice but to ask for help.

"The charity struggles with income, and this is the largest grant we have received. It’s nice to know we have been recognised for our support in the community."
