PEOPLE across the North East and North Yorkshire stood on their front steps and driveways last night to applaud the NHS staff and keyworkers helping the nation through the coronavirus crisis.
Emergency service workers joined the tribute by clapping outside hospitals and care homes across the region.
They included officers from Cleveland Police who clapped outside care homes in Stockton, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar.
Staff and residents at Reuben Manor care home, in Eaglescliffe, were delighted to see them line up outside in a show of solidarity.
In County Durham, Barnard Castle police joined residents in the town to pay tribute to health workers, with special mention for the ambulance crew based at the same emergency hub along with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue and Weardale Mountain Search and Rescue team.
Officers stood outside Crook police station to join the Clap for Carers tributes.
And in Newcastle, emergency service personnel showed their appreciation at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
