A PARISH council have erected a flag in support of NHS workers.

John Weighell, Chairman of Neasham Parish Council, unfurled the flag last Friday in the village on the newly built flagpole.

He acquired the flag from Harrison Flagpoles, based at Newton Aycliffe, where his daughter works.

"I've been wanting a flagpole since I joined the parish council thirty-five years ago, but it was never a priority.

"Everyone agreed that is was essential to root for the NHS at this time, especially because we have NHS staff in our village, including a young doctor who is currently recovering from Covid-19. We need to show thanks to our local heroes."

Profits from each flag sold will go towards the NHS Foundation.

The flag will come down for St George's day, to be replaced with a England flag, but will then be re-erected until the end of the coronavirus crisis.

"It's been well admired - people are pleased the as a village we are showing our backing."
