A GROUP has been set up out of concerned residents in Hengoed to limit or even stop what they call 'unreasonable traffic' up lanes there.

The Hengoed Lanes Group was established to monitor and report how much traffic they say is moving between two developments in the area.

While the two developments, Pentre Kendrick and Pentrewern, have planning permission, Peter Clare – from the group – says the level of traffic passing past residential houses on back lanes is too much to take.

"The group has been formed as a consequence of the decision to allow the Pentre Kendrick development in Old Hall Road, near Weston Hall," said Mr Clare.

"There's a lot of heavy traffic and a lot of heavy goods vehicles (HGV) travelling from one site at Pentrewern to Pentre Kendrick along the Hengoed Weston Lane.

"The HGV traffic is disproportionate to the size of the lane – 14 movements were recorded in just one day and this causes the verges to break and the lane is breaking up.

"There are pot holes on the lane now and the problems for the residents is its causing structural damage to their properties.

"There has been mud on sprayed on properties – walkers and cyclists are being put in danger from vehicles driving in the area from early morning to late at night.

"The aim of the group is to keep the lane free from HGV traffic moving from Pentre Kendrick."
