MEMBERS of the public who helped an elderly man who had fallen over during high winds have been thanked by police.

The man, who was in his seventies, hurt his face when he fell at Stanley bus station at 9am on Thursday.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “We’d like to say a big thanks to the very kind members of public who had stopped to help him, had contacted the ambulance service and his family/

“Your care and consideration were greatly appreciated.

“It looks like the man was blown over by the wind and hit his face.

“Around three members of the public helped the PCSO who was attending to the man.

“The PCSO rang the inspector who rushed down with a first aid kit.

“They got him inside the bus station and bandaged him up before taking him down to accident and emergency.”
