THE North-East and North Yorkshire has seen the biggest rise in patient deaths, latest figures show.

Across hospitals in the region, trusts have reported 60 new deaths from patients who tested positive for coronavirus.

  • The UK will carry out 100,000 Covid-19 tests per day by the end of April, Matt Hancock has said, as he set a new target as part of the Government's testing strategy.

  • NHS England said a further 561 coronavirus patients from across the UK had now died - bringing the total in England to 2,698. It said all patients were aged between 22 and 100 years old - forty four of the 561 patients had no known underlying health conditions. 
  • The new reported deaths across the region range from March 21 to April 1.
  • Health Secretary Matt Hancock who has recovered from Covid-19 and came out of self-isolation on Thursday, said he came back "redoubled in my determination to fight this virus with everything I've got.
  • More than £13 billion of historic NHS debt will be written off to place trusts in a "stronger position" to respond to the coronavirus crisis.
