AIR ambulance medics have started to wear three pairs of gloves to reduce the risk of infection during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service said that, along with other safety measures, all of its crew are now are wearing three pairs of gloves when tasked to patients.

GNAAS doctor Dion Arbid said: "To be able to take off our personal protective equipment and to reduce the risk of infection during Covid-19, it is vital that we take all the precautions we can and wearing three pairs of gloves is one of these.

"This means that when we are taking off the PPE, we're removing it in layers to prevent contamination.

"The first pair of gloves enables us to be able to remove the apron we're wearing once we have treat the patient.

"The second pair, allows us to take off the protective suit and visor and finally, that leaves us with one pair of gloves on the bottom which are totally clean."
