THE DRIVER of a lorry that lost its load of glass on the A66 this morning has been arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
Durham Police were called by the driver, who reported several panes of glass had fallen out of the back of his truck, just after 8.40am, while he was travelling along the A66 at Lingfield Point, Darlington.
When officers attended the scene, they carried out a drugs wipe, which the 27-year-old driver failed.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving whilst under the influence of drugs and was taken to Darlington Police Station. He has since been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.
The A66 was blocked near the B6279 (Lingfield Point roundabout) while the glass was cleared from the road by workers from Darlington Borough Council but appears to have now reopened.
