YOUNGSTERS, with time on their hands following the closure of schools to limit the Covid-19 spread, have been warned to, “stay off the tracks”.
Sunderland AFC and its official charity, the Foundation of Light, has joined the call, urging parents to highlight the need to keep away from railways to their children and young people.
As the nation remains in near-lockdown, the key message emerging from Trespass Awareness Week, is that youngsters should remain indoors and off railway lines to protect themselves and others.
Last year, Network Rail, the English Football League (EFL) Trust, British Transport Police and the StreetGames charity came together to launch the ‘You vs. Train’ drive to tackle the increasing number of people risking their lives, trespassing onto railway property.
The foundation has been delivering the initiative in secondary schools and at its Beacon of Light base, helping teenagers understand the dangers of trainlines and the wider impact the risky behaviour can have on friends and family.
Sunderland AFC forward, Duncan Watmore is supporting the campaign and has sent a message to young fans via a YouTube video.
