A WOMAN was taken to hospital with leg and chest injuries after her vehicle hit a lamppost and flipped onto its side in a residential street.
Emergency services were called to reports of a woman trapped in a vehicle following a crash on Grampion Drive, at the junction with Balliol Close, Peterlee, shortly after 11am yesterday.
The female driver of the Volkswagon was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital with leg and chest injuries, her condition is not known.
A Durham police spokesman said: "The fire brigade, police and ambulance attended the scene of a single vehicle collision.
"The injured woman was taken to hospital by road ambulance.
"Durham County Council was also called out because the lamppost was in a dangerous position."
