POLICE and other emergency services are dealing with a suspected fatality on a road underneath Durham Railway Viaduct.
It follows reports of a man jumping from the viaduct, carrying the main East Coast Railway Line south of Durham Railway Station.
As a result Sutton Street, off North Road, remains closed while police, fire and ambulance services deal with the situation.
An emergency call was made reporting the incident at 11.36am today, since when police have confirmed the death of an adult male. It is understood efforts are being made to contact next of kin.
It is thought the male casualty walked onto the viaduct from the end of the southbound station platform.
Due to the incident and initial inquiries a stop was made on rail movements south of the station, on the stretch of line between Durham and Darlington.
