THE country's lockdown has effected businesses negatively nation wide, but some have been able to thrive under the circumstances.

One such business is North East based security company, Sparta Security, who have security teams deployed in the silent hours throughout the coronavirus epidemic.

Owned by Darlington entrepreneur Francis Jones, the company have sent the Sparta Security team to business parks, retail stores, shopping centres and supermarkets to give businesses extra protection they require.

"It's a ghost town out there at the moment and that makes it a burglar's dream," said Mr Jones. "In the last 24 hours since the Prime Minister's announcement - we've seen a influx of calls from company's requiring our services - whether it is signage, cctv or our patrol team or Task Force, made up of experienced ex military officers."

Mr Jones is offering discount rates by up to 30% to help companies during this time.

"In the current conditions, we're a warship," said Mr Jones, "our job is to head out to sea and help where we can," he said.

Due to the increase in demand for their services, Mr Jones is also looking to recruit new team members to join Sparta Security, in particular dog handlers and SIA registered individuals.

"I have a huge amount of sympathy for those businesses struggling right now, and for those who have lost their job or work due to the virus.

"However, I like to think given the current climate, it's positive news that we are able to hire new people to join our company."
