Durham University attractions shut Durham University has decided to close all its attractions and museums until further notice, due to Covid-19.

The university’s attractions include the Oriental Museum, Museum of Archaeology, Palace Green Library, Durham Castle, Botanic Garden and Ushaw.

Its library sites, including the Bill Bryson Library, are also shut and events including Easter at Durham Castle, due to be held on Saturday, are off.

Claire O’Malley, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global), said: “The health and safety of our staff, students and the wider community continues to be at the heart of our decisions.

“We recommend that, where possible, students return home now to continue their studies. “Where that is not possible, students are advised to follow Public Health England advice and take sensible precautions to limit exposure to others.

“And for our colleagues, we will work with you to enable social distancing whilst we continue to adjust the University operations.

“This is a fast changing situation and on behalf of the University Executive I would like to thank you all for your ongoing help and support.”
