DARLINGTON Borough Council has tonight released a statement to say it is closing its public buildings in the town.

The statement says: "Following the Government announcement today about the new measures being put in place to manage the Coronavirus outbreak, the council has taken the difficult decision not to open a number of its venues from Tuesday 17 March 2020 until further notice.

"We will continue to closely monitor and act on the latest Government advice and will re-open the venues as soon as it is safe to do so. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

"The following venues will not open tomorrow:

  • Crown Street library and Cockerton library
  • The Dolphin Centre
  • Eastbourne Sports Complex
  • Head of Steam
  • Darlington Railway Museum
  • Darlington Hippodrome

"For customers who have paid in advance, arrangements will be made to provide refunds or credit notes - more details on how this will be done will follow."
