A Stockton school has had to close after a power failure.

Ian Ramsey CE Academy closed this morning because a power failure led to the school having no gas, meaning hot food could not be provided to students.

In a statement to parents, headteacher Brian Janes said: 'Due to unforeseen circumstances Ian Ramsey CE Academy will be closing for Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 immediately.

Those pupils who already have permission to return home, during a school closure, will be leaving immediately.

Pupils who do not have permission to leave the academy, will need parental permission. Parents/Carers to contact the Academy as soon as possible to give permission or via text message to your child.

Year 11 pupils who are in the Photography exam will remain in school until the end of the exam.

All Year 7 and Year 8 pupils will remain in school and will be provided with a cold lunch.'

The school will be open tomorrow, but no hot food will be available. Pupils can either take a packed lunch or buy cold food.

A year 10 parents evening will still go ahead this evening.
