POLICE and other emergency services spent Saturday night dealing with a major late-night incident in Darlington town centre.

Around eight emergency vehicles, including police, ambulance and fire crews, were in attendance at the scene of the incident, close to the Darlington Hippodrome theatre.

It is understood that three female pedestrians were hit by a car, at around 10pm, although the precise details of the incident remain unverified at this time.

The road was completely closed between the Darlington Hippodrome theatre and Darlington train station, with the incident having occurred just outside the Black Swan pub.

At least three people were treated for their injuries on stretchers in the road, and at this stage, their condition is unknown.
