FORMER CBBC presenter Kirsten O’Brien was back home today ahead of World Book Day.

Taking place on March 5, Kirsten started her reading early with a visit to Acklam Community Hub and Library for a special rhyme time activity.

She was visiting in support for the Department for Education’s ‘Hungry Little Minds’ campaign, which encourages parents to support their children’s learning in their earliest years, for those up to five years old.

Kirsten co-hosted the session, which involved a mixture of songs and nursery rhymes alongside “Martyn the Music Man”. She also read a book with the children and shared her tips on how parents can support their children’s learning at home.

The broadcaster and presenter is best known for presenting popular children’s programme SM:ART and has three children of her own, including twins.

The campaign was launched to address the fact that too many children still fall behind early and it is hard to close the gaps that emerge – with disadvantaged children most likely to have language skills below the age-related expectations at age five.
