POLICE have revealed the identity of a 15-year-old pedestrian who died following a crash in Sunderland.

Shortly after 4.30pm on February 19, police were called to Wessington Way, near Sainsbury’s after reports a car had collided with a teenager.

Emergency services attended the scene and the 15-year-old female was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers have confirmed Alisha Webster died as a result of those injuries on February 25.

Her family have been notified and are currently being supported by specialist officers at this time.

Sergeant Matt Sykes, of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department, said: “This was a devastating incident which has sadly resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time and I would ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with their loss.

“We are committed to finding out the circumstances surrounding the incident and an investigation is ongoing to determine events directly before the collision happened.

“I would like to thank members of the public who have already come forward to assist with our enquiries but we would still urge anyone who witnessed the collision, who is yet to contact police, to get in touch as soon as possible.

“We are also keen for anyone who was passing through the area at the time, who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch.”
