THE daughter of an elderly woman has described how she was nearly "killed" after an alleged crash on Wednesday afternoon.

Joyce Yates had been travelling on the A6108, between Masham and Leyburn, in North Yorkshire when another vehicle ploughed into her Ford Fiesta at around 3.10pm.

Speaking to The Northern Echo, her daugher Amanda Grant described how the alleged incident - which has left Mrs Yates shaken - could have very nearly killed her.

She said: "My mum was on the road coming back from a relative's when she noticed the other car's wheels coming over onto her side of the road - then it hit her wing mirror, then the glass shattered everywhere.

"She was covered in glass, there was even glass in her knickers."

Ms Yates described the other vehicle had been travelling at speed when the accident took place, before the driver made off in the direction towards Masham.

The Northern Echo:

Pictures showing Mrs Yates' Ford Fiesta revealed the extent of the damage, which has since left her feeling "heartbroken" after only purchasing the car a few days ago.

Ms Grant said: "It's just so naughty. How could somebody be so dangerous, it could have killed her, it could have given her a heart attack.

"She only bought the car on Monday as a little run around, she was heartbroken by it all - she was very shaken.

"She's was very lucky because she was wearing glasses and a bit of the glass could have ended up going in her eye."

The suspect has been described as driving a dark-coloured estate-type looking vehicle, which Ms Grant said would show extreme signs of damage following the crash.

She said: "It wasn't a little scratch, it was some bump. Somebody is going go home with a damaged front car."
