THE Northern Echo has launched a weekly feature in which we present a bouquet of flowers to an individual or group going the extra mile in their community. The recipient of this week’s bouquet of the week is Glenis Harrison, 60, for her previous work with Firthmoor Community Centre during her post of executive director at the centre.

Why do they deserve this gift?

Although no longer at the centre, Glenis deserves this gift because she has worked in the Firthmoor area of the town for 30 years and has such a heart from the community. She is welcoming and friendly to everyone who walks through the door, whether it’s people from the community, volunteers or work colleagues - she shows genuine care to everybody.

What is the most deserving thing they have done?

Glenis has watched and been central to growth of the organisation alongside all the wonderful volunteers and trustees, she works tirelessly to get grants in for the centre and had many successes and all the money goes back to the community or the centre.

She has been central to the success of Firthmoor live every summer, the yearly fireworks display and the annual Christmas and Easter fairs.

Glenis is compassionate and caring and wants to make a difference to the community. She is a shining light to everyone who she helps.

The organisation is charity run and is a welcoming community hub. It boasts a cafe, foodbank, uniform exchange facility, youth discos, drop in youth sessions and citizen advice service.

Describe them in three words

Hardworking, compassionate, selfless.
