A MAN who tried to return a cash withdrawal he found at a petrol station cash machine to its owner has come forward after police appealed for him on social media.

North Yorkshire Police shared CCTV images of the man which they wanted to trace in connection with money which he had found left in a cash machine at the Coop service station near Lowgates level crossing in Northallerton on December 13.

The man had taken the withdrawal into the shop and tried to reunite it with its owner, but when he was unable to do so, he left the store with the cash.

The person who lost the money had since come forward to the police.

Police confirmed that the man they were tracing is helping officers with their enquiries, and the appeal has been removed.
