POLICE are appealing for witnesses following the theft of two motorcycles and a moped from Scarborough.

The incidents happened on Eden Drive and Asquith Avenue and were reported to the police at around 8.20am on Friday, February 21.

A short time later two suspects were sighted in the town centre and they headed out of town towards Burniston.

The moped was recovered nearby.

A police patrol vehicle pursued a motorbike containing two men.

The pillion passenger came off the motorbike and was arrested at Thornton-le-Dale just after 12pm.

The pursuit was called off due to the dangerous manner of riding.

Enquiries are ongoing to arrest the rider and locate two stolen motorcycles - a purple Honda (reg YY03 AWN) and a white and blue Honda GSX (reg Y851 HKY).

A 22-year-old man, of no fixed abode, remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle and dangerous driving.
