A YELLOW warning for strong winds in parts of the North-East has been issued by the Met Office for later this week.

Today, a weather warning for strong winds across the entire region and North Yorkshire was issued as the country was hampered by Storm Dennis and Storm Ciara last week.

The Met Office said the Yellow weather warning was in place for the region on Friday (February 21) between 8am and 8pm.

It said disruption to road, rail, air and ferry transport was likely - while exposed roads and bridges would likely close to high-sided vehicles.

Earlier this month, the Met Office issued a number of Yellow weather warnings for parts of the North-East as temperatures across the UK fell.

In County Durham and the Dales in North Yorkshire, the Met Office warned against heavy snow and icy road surfaces.

In North Yorkshire, cars were left submerged, homes and businesses flooded and roads closed after heavy rain fell.

As a result, more than 5,000 sandbags were distributed to help emergency services keep the water out of homes and businesses.
