A WARNING has been issued after drugs were taken during a burglary at a veterinary practice.
An investigation is underway after suspects broke into Westway Vets, in Church Street, Seaham, overnight on Sunday.
Staff who turned up to work on Monday discovered two safes have been broken into with cash and drugs used in animal sedation being taken.
Drugs taken included tramadol, lidocaine, adrenaline and apamorphine.
Extra security measures have now been put in place.
Police are appealing to the public to help with their investigation.
Detective Constable John Forster, from Durham Constabulary, said: “These drugs could prove very dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands or are unwittingly taken without a person knowing what they are.
“We would encourage anyone with information to come forward urgently before any further harm is done.”
