A FAST food takeaway was forced to close after a late night burglary caused damage to the back-of-house area.

A 40-year-old man has since remained in police custody after Domino's Pizza on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough was targeted at around 11.10pm on Monday.

Police said the alleged burglary had left damage to the staff area of the premises, while the suspect had been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

A spokesperson for Domino's Pizza said: "Unfortunately, our Middlesbrough store was damaged yesterday by an intruder and we had to close temporarily.

"Thankfully no one was injured during this incident. We’d like to apologise to our Middlesbrough pizza fans, but rest assured we are now back to serving our piping-hot pizza.”

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Police were called to Domino’s on Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough just after 11.10pm last night (Monday 17th February) after reports of damage to that damage to a staff area.

"A 40 year old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary and he is currently being questioned in connection with the incident."
