A MAN in his 40s has died following a single vehicle crash on Saturday.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, which happened on the A67 near Eaglescliffe at about 1.25pm.

The crash involved a blue Vauxhall Astra, which crashed underneath the rail bridge east of Urlay Nook Road on the westbound carriageway.

The driver suffered serious injuries and has since died in hospital.

A police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.”

Officers are asking for anyone who witnessed the collision, may have captured vehicle on dash cam footage or may have witnessed the vehicle prior to the collision to contact PC Andrew Lawson via the non-emergency number 101, quoting the reference number 025570.
