AN investigation will be launched by the fire service and police after the roof of a family home was completely destroyed by a fire on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 1.19pm on February 11, the emergency services were called to a house fire on Thornaby Road in Thornaby, near Stockton.

Striking pictures showed a number of a firefighters as they attempted to get the fire under control as the address appeared to have suffered major damage.

'Ambulance service stood down'

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a house fire at 1.19pm on Thornaby Road in Stockton but the fire service stood the ambulance service down as they were no longer needed."

'Joint investigation to take place'

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "We were called to a house fire on Thornaby Road.

"Four appliances were in attendance, two from Thornaby, one from Middlesbrough and one Stockton plus the CARP (Arial platform).

"It will be under investigation jointly with the police."
