POLICE believe an air rifle may have been used to smash the window of a car while it was parked at a service station.

The vehicle was parked at the Tesco petrol station in Acklam Road, Middlesbrough, opposite the Bluebell Hotel, at about 11.45pm on Thursday when the rear window was shattered.

The red Renault Clio had been parked by a woman in her sixties before being targeted.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Upon leaving the vehicle, the rear window was shattered, believed to be caused by an air rifle.

"Fortunately, the woman was uninjured."

Cleveland Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have further information to call 101, quoting event number 016821.
