A HORSE has been rescued by fire crews by order of the Peaky Blinders.

The 20-year-old horse weighing about one tonne had slipped into a ditch.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: "Our crews came to the rescue of this gentle giant who apparently starred in the first series of the Peaky Blinders!

"Firefighters from High Handenhold and Bishop Auckland used animal rescue equipment and a telescopic materials handler to pull the gentle giant back to safety."
