THE following cases were among those heard at Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee Magistrates’ Court during the last week.

ADAM DAVID BARRASS, of Coronation Terrace, New Kyo, was given a prison sentence after he failed to comply with the supervision requirements imposed following release from prison. The 30-year-old admitted the breach.

DAVID WAINMAN, 30, of Halifax, was fined £120 after he assaulted a police officer acting in the exercise of his functions. The Ackroyd Court resident pleaded guilty and was also made to pay £50 compensation, £32 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. He was also in the dock after he damaged two cells belonging to Durham Constabulary.

SCOTT DEFTY, 28, of West Springs, Crook, was fined £50 after he failed without reasonable excuse to comply with the requirements of a community order made by North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court. He admitted the breach and was fined £50 and ordered to pay £60 compensation.

DAVID BURROWS of Morley Terrace, Fencehouses, was disqualified from driving for 20 months after he was caught behind the wheel whilst under the influence of alcohol. The 38-year-old pleaded guilty and was fined £120, ordered to pay £32 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. He also pleaded guilty to driving without a policy of insurance.

JAMES ETHERIDGE, 43, of Windsor Gardens, was discharged conditionally for six months after he stole six bottles of vodka from the Co-operative Food Store, in Burnopfield. The Consett resident was also made to pay £100 compensation.

KIERAN JOHN HUNTER, 23, of Copley Lane, Bishop Auckland, was disqualified from driving for 12 months after he was caught behind the wheel whilst under the influence of cocaine. He also pleaded guilty to driving whilst under the influence of Benzoylecgonine which exceeded the specified limit. The court fined him £120, ordered him to pay £32 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

STEPHEN WILLIAM KING, of St Andrews Close, Newton Aycliffe was given a community order after he was caught driving whilst disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving license. The 22-year-old pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay £90 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. He also pleaded guilty to driving whilst under the influence of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and failing to stop whilst being required to do so by a police officer – all whilst driving without insurance.

BRETT NORTHEY, 28, of Percy Terrace, Stanley, was given a community order after he stole 60 Ambi Pur refills, from Boyes. A day later he then stole two hair clippers. He was ordered to pay £125 compensation.

ADAM SPENCE, of Short Street, Bishop Auckland, pleaded guilty to driving whilst under the influence of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. The 29-year-old was disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined £500. He was also made to pay £50 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

SCOTT ANDREW DAVISON, 42, of no fixed address, was ordered to pay £1000 compensation after he stole an Everest coat which cost £129.99 from Superdry. He also damaged an electronic scanner from Superdrug a week later and assaulted a woman by beating her in Chester-le-Street. He was made to pay an additional £100 compensation.

SIMON RUSSELL MOORE, of Castleside, Consett, was discharged conditionally after he stole six bottles of vodka and various meat items from the Co-op, in Burnopfield. The 36-year-old pleaded guilty and was made to pay £100 compensation, £21 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

CLAYTON GEORGE OPHIELD, 18, of Blackhall Colliery,was convicted by the court after he dishonestly undertook or assisted in the retention, removal, disposal or realisation of stolen goods. The Shakespeare Avenue resident was discharged conditionally for six months and ordered to pay £20 to fund victim services. Ophield was also ordered to pay £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

FRANK BOWMAN, 56, of Tyne Road, Redcar, was ordered to pay £25 compensation after he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Durham Bus Station.

MICHAEL ANDREW HETHERINGTON, from Witton Park, in Bishop Auckland, was disqualified from driving for 42 months after he was caught behind the wheel whilst over the drink-drive limit. The 48-year-old was also given a community order, made to pay £90 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

JAMES MICHAEL HAYMAN, 37, who gave his address as a hotel in Newton Aycliffe, was given a community order after he assaulted a woman earlier this month by beating her. He was made to pay £250 compensation, £90 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. Hayman was also in the dock for damaging wing mirrors on a transit van on the same date and was handed a restraining order.

JONATHON PAUL WOODROW, 34, of Norton, was in the dock after he was caught driving in Rushyford whilst under the influence of cannabis which exceeded the specified limit. He was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving license for 12 months and fined £120. The Grange Road resident was also made to pay £32 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

ROBERT BERRIMAN, of Alhambra Terrace, Fishburn, was given a four week prison sentence after he stole nine branded shirts and eight jumpers from T K Maxx. The 41-year-old also attempted to steal seven designer jumpers from the store and was made to pay £569.91 compensation. He was also in the dock after he was caught in the possession of cannabis. The drug was confiscated.

RHYS DANIEL HUNTER, of Martindale Road, Darlington, was given a two week concurrent prison sentence after he assaulted a man in Darlington by beating. The 23-year-old was ordered to pay £100 compensation.

KEVIN BURDON, 38, of Hazel Drive, Hesleden, was given a suspended prison sentence and disqualified from driving for 40 months after he was caught behind the wheel whilst over the legal drink-drive limit. He pleaded guilty and was also made to pay £122 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

SIMEON RICHARD HOPE, 54, of Darlington, was handed a community order after he was found with a digital camera which breached the terms of his sexual offences prevention order. He was also made to pay £90 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

CRAIG LONGSTAFF, 38, of High Street, Willington, was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £120 after he was caught behind the wheel whilst under the influence of a controlled drug which exceeded the specified limit. Longstaff was also ordered to give £32 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service. He was also in the dock for driving whilst under the influence of cocaine but received no separate penalty.

JOSHUA IAN TINKLER, of Chapel Road, Sadberge, was handed a community order and disqualified from driving for 18 months after he was caught behind the wheel whilst under the influence of cocaine. The 20-year-old was also made to pay £90 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

DONNA MARIA WARCUP, of Burnside Avenue. Houghton-le-Spring, was fined £462 and disqualified from driving for three months after she failed to provide a specimen when required to do so in the course of an investigation. The 42-year-old was also ordered to pay £46 to fund victim services and and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

CHARLENE AMELIA WATSON, 29, of Darlington, was convicted of fraud after she dishonestly made a false representation by using a bank card which did not belong to her. The Cartmel Terrace resident was handed a community order and made to pay £17.40 compensation. Watson also stole Yankee candles and a Dolce and Gabanna gift set from Boots and was ordered to pay a further £290.91 compensation.

SCOTT CHARLES HENRY KANE-OGDEN, of Brandlands Way, Peterlee, was handed a community order after he was caught in Peterlee Bus Station in the possession of a large kitchen knife. The 31-year-old was also made to pay £85 to fund victim services. He was also found in the possession of class B drugs which were confiscated by police.

DONNA MARIE FOXTON, 39, of Edward Terrace, New Brancepeth, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Durham Bus Station. She also assaulted a police officer and then damaged a prison cell intending to destroy or damage. She was made to pay £150 compensation.

SHAUN LONGTHORNE, of Craddock Street, Spennymoor, was disqualified from driving for 20 months and fined £120 after being caught behind the wheel whilst over the legal drink-drive limit. The 33-year-old pleaded guilty and was also made to pay £30 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

DAVID ANTHONY HOWE, 51, of Front Street, Cockfield, was handed a restraining order and fined £135 after he used threatening, abusive, or insulting words during an incident in Cockfield. He was also ordered to pay £32 to fund victim services and made to pay £200 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

STEPHEN EDWARD HALL, 54, of no fixed address, was given five penalty points and fined £247 after he was caught by police driving without due care and attention. The defendant pleaded guilty and was also made to pay £32 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
