A WOMAN was taken to hospital as a precaution after her car flipped onto its side in a crash on the A692 at Burnopfield, in County Durham.
The road was closed in both directions causing long delays for commuters travelling in the direction of Newcastle on Friday morning.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision in Burnopfield, County Durham, at 8am this morning.
“The incident involved a Peugeot and Audi A3. The female driver of the Audi was taken to hospital as a precaution.
“The male driver of the Peugeot was uninjured.”
The road was reopened at about 9.30am.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 8.02am to a road traffic accident on the A692 at Burnopfield.
We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and two of our Hazardous Area Response Teams.
“We transported one person to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.”
