THE Northern Echo has launched a weekly feature in which we present a bouquet of flowers to an individual or group going the extra mile in their community. The recipient of this week’s bouquet of the week is Natalie Palmer, a solicitor with Latimer Hinks in Darlington who was awarded her flowers yesterday.

Why do they deserve this gift?

Natalie was nominated by someone who requested to remain anonymous, for her commitment to making everyday life easier for those living with dementia. Natalie has worked for Latimer Hinks solicitors, on Priestgate, for near 20 years but in the last few years she has trained with the Alzheimer’s Society to become a dementia friends champion. Following this she has helped and encouraged others within Latimer Hinks to be able to support clients with dementia, or their carers through training and development.

What is the most deserving thing they have done?

As Dementia Friend, Natalie aims to change people’s perception of dementia by transforming the way in which people think, how they act and talk about the condition.

It can be incredibly frightening for those living with dementia and she wants people to feel more comfortable when they need legal support. She identified a need in her own business, as they deal with many older clients in rural areas, who may need a home visit or additional support.

Describe them in three words

Inspirational, caring and very supportive of her clients and of the people she works with.
