A MALE model-turned-musician has released a new single with his band and is headlining a gig in the region this week.

David Stoker, who came third in the Mr England competition in 2013, is performing with No Time For Reason, at the O2 Academy in Newcastle on Thursday.

The 28-year-old, from Chester-le-Street, formed the band last year, has already made an impact on the North-East music scene with a series of popular singles and some packed shows, including a headline spot at The Cluny.

The band’s inspirations span from electronic dance music to jazz, but their love of pop punk is what shines through, with their sound being compared to the likes of Panic At The Disco, Blink 182, Bloc Party and Biffy Clyro.

Mr Stoker, who attended The Hermitage before joining Tyne Tees Models, said: “We have only been together as a band for six months and we’ve achieved a lot in that time.

“I put the band together by scouting on Facebook. I feel lucky to have found these guys; they’re incredible musicians.

“2019 was loads of fun. We’ve spent the first few months finding our sound, jamming new song ideas, writing.

“Getting in the studio has been awesome as we always bring out each other’s creativity.

“We try to experiment in the studio as much as possible and hopefully that comes across in our records.”

As chief songsmith and front man Mr Stoker said he aims to provide a voice for millennials and Generation Z, drawing from personal experiences to offer his own take on 21st Century pop culture.

His vocals are complimented by the characteristically fun and energetic instrumentals provided by Charlie Philip, guitar, Henry Poxon, bass, and Tony McHaddan on drums.

No Time For Reason released their third single, Novocain, on Friday.

Mr Stoker said: “This will be the first time we have played the O2 and its been a goal of ours for a long time now, so it feels amazing to be putting on a show there.

“Expect lots of catchy memorable songs, in your face guitar solos, heavy riffs and none stop energy from start to finish.

We have plans for a small tour next year and will hopefully do a few good festivals.”
