A NEW musical based on a "simple story about a lad from Middlesbrough" is set to come to Darlington Majestic Theatre – and you could star in it.  The musical is set to run from November 4 to November 14 but is currently open for auditions.

Samantha Moore, writer and producer of the show, called Trevor, is a dance teacher who has taught on Teesside for 30 years. To celebrate that achievement, as well as pay tribute to her father Trevor Moore, who died in April 2019, she decided to write a musical about his life.

She said: “I’ve had ideas for musicals in my mind for years but I’m finally taking the time to commit to this one. I am new to script writing and it’s a bit of a challenge but I’m still really enjoying it.”

She added: “It’s a simple story about a lad from Middlesbrough, but there’s a lot of funny moments in it too and references to Teesside and famous people to come out of the area.

“My dad was a local lad brought up on Ayresome Park Road in Middlesbrough and he loved the Boro and had a passion for music particularly the Beatles and the sounds of the 60s.

“He was such a big fan of Boro that he travelled to watch Middlesbrough FC play against Blackburn in the FA Cup March 5 1963 and made the front page of a newspaper as he travelled in numerous buses and trains to get there.”  Before this he received a reply to one of the letters he sent to then-Boro player Brian Clough about the serious injury that almost ended his career.

The letter read: “Dear Trevor, thank you very much for your letter. It was kind of you to write.

“I remember coming round to see you but it doesn’t seem as long ago as two-and-a-half years. My injury is coming along fine but I still have my leg in plaster. I hope it wont be too long before I am playing football again.  “Give my regards to your father. Sincerely Brian Clough.”  The Northern Echo: As well as her father the musical will also touch on Samantha’s grandfather Fred Moore who was a councillor for Teesside County Borough council in the Linthorpe Ward and was first elected in 1959.  After this he became Chairman of Recreation and Entertainment and as a result, brushed shoulders with many stars of the time such as Tom Jones, Jayne Mansfield and Freddie and the Dreamers.  The Northern Echo: The Northern Echo: Samantha is set to hold auditions for both actors and dancers on Sunday, January 26 at Teesside dance and fitness centre studios on Albion Street in Stockton. There is also a role open for a talented dog to play Trevor’s beloved Collie dog, who Samantha said was “his best friend and helped him through some very tough times”.

The musical is also looking for two strong actors in order to play her father Trevor and grandfather Fred.  For more information about the musical and auditions, see Samantha Moore’s Facebook page. Tickets are for sale at ticketsource.com/majestic-theatre. Some of the proceeds are set to go to Dogs Trust and an appropriate charity for stroke awareness, as he suffered from strokes for many years.
