A BODY was found on railway tracks near Stockton this morning as the emergency services rushed to the scene.
Original reports suggested there had been a casualty on a railway bridge over the A1027 near Norton.
Rail services between Newcastle and Middlesbrough were cancelled, while the British Transport Police were at the scene.
This afternoon the British Transport Police confirmed a person had been pronounced dead at the scene.
A force spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line in Stockton-On-Tees at 8.55am this morning, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are now working to identify them and establish the full circumstances of how they came to be on the tracks.”
