A MOUNTAIN biker who collided with a tree in Guisborough Forest was the first of three callouts for volunteers from the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team on Sunday.

The man suffered chest injuries in the accident but managed to walk for 20 minutes towards the edge of the forest before the pain became too great to carry on.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team said: "The man's friend guided our rescue team to their location and one of the team doctors treated the man at the scene. He was then stretchered to one of the team's Land Rover ambulances which transported him to a waiting ambulance."

Rescuers had just enough time to finish restocking their equipment before they were called out for the second time shortly before 4pm to attend to a 45-year-old woman from Northallerton who had slipped on a moorland footpath 300 metres from the car park at Hasty Bank, above the village of Great Broughton.

Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team said: "The lady was out for an afternoon’s walk with a friend when the accident happened.

"She was treated at the scene by paramedics from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and one of the team doctors before being carried down the hillside the 300 metres to a waiting ambulance at the car park."

As the fallen Northallerton woman was being attended to, a 75-year-old man from Stockton who was on a day’s walk with his wife also slipped on the rocky footpath.

Due to the age and condition of this patient he was flown by Yorkshire Air Ambulance to James Cook University Hospital for treatment."
