RECENT cases heard at Harrogate Magistrates' Court and Teesside Magistrates' Court include:

KIRSTY BLACK, 27, of Inman Grove, Knaresborough, was found guilty in her absence of failing to purchase a rail ticket for her train journey. She was fined £220 and ordered to pay compensation of £3.50, plus a £32 victim surcharge and £150 court costs.

MARK IAN GIBSON, 41, of East Parade, Harrogate, admitted to stealing a £400 television from Asda, Harrogate. He was given a curfew with an electronic tag for 12 weeks. He was also ordered to pay £90 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

MAX CHARLIE MILLS, 25, of Olive Walk, Harrogate, admitted to assault by beating. He was given a 16 week curfew with electronic tag and a restraining order from the victim. He was ordered to pay £200 compensation, a £90 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

JOHN STUART SHAW, 48, of Chain Lane, Knaresborough, admitted to having cannabis in his possession. He was fined £120, with a £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

SHAUN CHARLES SMITH, 35, of Market Street, Leyburn, admitted to having cocaine in his possession. He was fined £319 and a £32 victim surcharge.

NATHAN ALEXIS WILSHER, 34, of Albany Avenue, Harrogate, admitted to two counts of theft of perfume and aftershave from Superdrug and Debenhams in Harrogate. He was given a 12 month conditional discharge from prison, and ordered to pay compensation of £238.

HOLLY GENINE JONES, 26, of Belmont Road, Harrogate, admitted to being drunk and disorderly and to failing to report to court after being released on bail. She was fined £80, a £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

CHRISTINE REEDER, 43, of Bolton Way, Leyburn, admitted to speeding on Bellerby Moor Road. She was fined £115, with a £30 victim surcharge, and £85 court costs. Her driving licence was endorsed with three penalty points.

BARRY GOURLAY, 38, of Grosvenor Court, Harrogate, admitted to sending text messages that were grossly offensive, obscene or menacing. He was fined £80, with a £32 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

KELLY DION RUTHERFORD, 19, of Strawberry Dale Avenue, Harrogate, admitted to assaulting a man by spitting him, and to failing to comply with supervision requirements imposed following release from a period of imprisonment, in failing to attend a supervision appointment. She was given a community order and ordered to pay a £90 victim surcharge and £80 fine.

MICHAEL GARY PAUL CRONIN, 47, of Grange Road, Hartlepool, admitted to trespassing in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, Hartlepool, and stealing a staff member's jumper. He also admitted to failing to arrive in court after being released on bail. He was fined £32, with a £40 victim surcharge.
