A MAJOR motorway carriageway has reopened after two hours, following a multi-vehicle crash this morning.
The accident happened at around 8:07am on the M1 southbound, between junction 41 (Carrgate) and junction 40 (Wakefield).
All vehicles were being held and traffic was stationary while the situation is dealt with.
There were queues back to junction 43 (Leeds).
But the accident was cleared and the carriageway reopened at roughly 10:17am.
The northbound carriageway had also been blocked.
But cameras showed that residual debris was cleared shortly after.
Traffic built due to this and also drivers looking at the accident as they passed.
Congestion was queuing six miles back on the northbound carriageway and travel time was 30 minutes, at one point.
