LATEST UPDATE: Five arrests made after factory worker 'stabbed to death' outside factory

WEST Yorkshire Police has launched a murder investigation after a "serious incident" last night.

It happened on Manchester Road, in Linthwaite, Huddersfield, at around 11:45pm on Thursday evening.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are continuing enquiries to work out the full circumstances of the incident.

There had been earlier reports of a stabbing in the area.

One witness said this morning: "There's a huge police presence in Linthwaite.

"They've cordoned off the Thornton and Ross factory and there's workers at the factory directing customers away.

"They've put a forensic tent up in the car park, round the back."

Near to this location is the Linthwaite Cricket and Bowling Club.

Back in August, there was an outbreak of serious violence while a match was underway, when a gang of youths invaded the pitch.

Linthwaite CC were hosting Kirkheaton at the time.

A group of around 12 yobs injured four cricket players, brandishing cricket stumps, two knives and a baseball bat.

One Kirkheaton cricketer suffered a broken leg.

The witness said: "This place isn't getting any better.

"People in Linthwaite seem a bit shocked by what's happened today."

A police spokesperson said: "Reassurance patrols are being conducted across the local area."
