THE emergency services including two air ambulances were at the scene of a 'serious' road traffic collision between Darlington and Northallerton.
Police confirmed up to four vehicles had been involved in a crash on the A167 southbound at Great Smeaton in North Yorkshire on Thursday afternoon.
An occupant of a vehicle involved was trapped, and a number of others sustained minor injuries.
The Great North Air Ambulance, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were also at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance said they were mobilised at 4.15pm in support of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Police said diversions were now in place following the immediate closure of the road in both directions at Great Smeaton.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said the force had been called to reports of a multi-vehicle crash at around 3.49pm - it said the Collision Investigation Unit had been despatched to the scene.
The Yorkshire Airbulance confirmed they attended the incident, but did not airlift, and assisted with a female patient.
The circumstances surrounding the injured patient are not yet known.
