ORGANISERS of the Teesside Comic-Con are promising a “fantastic, geeky family day out” with the chance to meet guests from the world of film and TV.

The 2020 Unleashed Events season kicks off in Middlesbrough on Sunday, February 2 with a mix of droids, warriors and creatures at Teesside University Students Union.

Fans can come along and meet Jimmy Vee, the man inside R2-D2. The Scottish actor, puppeteer and stunt performer replaced the late Kenny Baker, who died in 2016, as the Star War's droid.

He is also known for playing a number of Doctor Who monsters and aliens including Bannakaffalatta in the 2007 Christmas special Voyage of the Damned, as well as the Graske in the Doctor Who spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Joining him is Scottish Actor Clive Russell who fans of Game of Thrones will knowas the warrior Brynden ‘The Blackfish’ Tully. His imposing physique has gained him warrior and villainous roles in numerous films and television programs working with stars such as Simon Pegg, Helena Bonham Carter and Robbie Coltrane.

Also attending is puppeteer and actor Aidan Cook, who worked as a creature and droid performer in three Star Wars movies as well as having appearances in Doctor Who.

Host for the day Tony Knight, of TC Kreations, said: “Unleashed Events are a must to visit. The guest lists are nothing but diverse, not only do you get to meet the guests but you can ask questions during the interview part of the event.

“There are loads of traders to visit to pick up some of your favourite geeky bits and pieces, all in all an absolute family friendly day out, one you do not want to miss.”

Teesside Comic Society will also be present, showing off their own created comics.

Those who turn up in costume can enter into the Cosplay prize competition and there will be traders with geeky toys, comics, collectables, art, jewellery, gaming and more.

Sharon Hall a spokesperson for Unleashed Events, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Jimmy, Clive and Aidan to Teesside Comic-Con. As well as the awesome guests we have some amazing traders and attractions to see.

“If you have never been to a comic-con before then you will find it to be an absolutely fantastic day out for all the family whether you are geeky or not.”

The event is held at Teesside University Students Union, Southfield Road, Middlesbrough, from 11am to 4pm. Tickets available from unleashedevents.co.uk
